2 Weeks to Go

From the time near end of 2010 we wanted to get to Guernsey for a contest, welcomed by Louis MU6FER, and have a bit of a laugh to.

Well it’s now only 2 weeks to go until Mark MØMJH & myself fly out from Gatwick to Guernsey for what I hope to be an Epic 6 days.

The plans early on were Staggering, but we finally came to our senses and scaled it down to the following:-

  • Operators
    • Paul MØTZO
    • Mark MØMJH
    • Louis MU6FER
    • Jes MUØCHN
    • Colin MUØFAL (Hopefully)
    • Tom MU3ZLQ
    • Keith G6NHU
  • Radio
    • Yaesu FT-450
  • Antennas
    • SRC X130
    • W3EDP
    • Vert for 40m
    • Vert for 20m
    • Dipole for 6m & Collinear for 2m/70cm (when not contesting)
  • Accommodation
    • Camping in Tent

In the contest we will be MUØHTJ not MPØHTJ. We decided to keep it simpler. When not contesting or if working people from the camp on other bands during the contest the MP call will be used.

Updates once on the island maybe sporadic, but we will try out best, and Paul will be adding to his Beer list as well.

Our first meeting (online of course)

Earlier today we had our first meeting to plan the trip. So far we had used a shared Google Doc to plan ideas.

Last week I sent an email to the team to meet in the Google Docs chat widget. We would then move to Skype once some had showed up. I was half expecting no one to show up. At 8pm only 3 people were in the doc, but within minutes we had about 6 or 7. Much better.

The chat went on for hours. We discussed a lot to do with the trip including travel, accommodation, catering, radio & antenna setup, operating, T-Shirts, and even some ideas for when we have a free day on the Monday.

It’s a good thing we have 2 or 3 people on Guernsey so they can help to organise & check things out there.

One good thing is this trip is looking more & more likely to happen.

See you in the Contest, de MPØHTJ

Hamtests:- Contesting on Guernsey

The turkey has barely settled in our stomachs, the team from Hamtests and their chatrooms friends have spent time over Christmas & New Year formulating a plan for operating a Contest in 2011.

The location kind of picked itself as we had a long term invite to visit Guernsey from a regular in the Chatroom. We are still sorting where exactly, but it will be from Guernsey.

Oh, and the Contest. The IOTA (Islands On The Air) Contest in the last full weekend of July 2011.

We’ll update the site when we have more details.
